Solana Beach is a small, upscale community tucked along the Pacific Ocean in between Del Mar and Cardiff. Incorporated in 1986, Solana Beach is right next door to a beautiful natural lagoon to the north and the spectacular scenery of Rancho Santa Fe and San Dieguito County Park to the east of the city. A quiet, relaxed atmosphere, Solana Beach is mostly a residential community.
West of I-5, you will find a friendly beach environment with older homes dotting the hillsides, canyons, and ocean bluffs. Many of the large, gated condominiums on S. Sierra Avenue are second homes and seasonal rentals. Expensive custom homes located on the bluffs and high in the hills offer expansive views of the Pacific Ocean. More of a country club atmosphere with rolling hills exists east of I-5, with newer executive homes on large lots and some condominiums. Private golf and tennis facilities are available as well as public.
Executives, professionals, and artists are drawn to the small-town, casual nature of Solana Beach. Most of the people who live here are long-time residents and there is a very low turnover rate of single-family homes. Very few new homes have been built in the city in the last ten years, although several small residential projects were recently completed. Local residents and tourists have fun shopping in the popular Cedros Design District, featuring a growing number of antique, art, clothing, and specialty shops.
Solana Beach is made up of single family homes, condominiums, villas, and townhouses.
